bom bom dippety!

ok,so i had a rough day today.for starters,my tig welder took a crap on me.losing my tig is like cutting off my arm!so i spent most the day tryin to get it fixed, but its gonna have to be sent to seattle.
so i made a flange for the carberator,so i can weld that air cleaner thing to it.luckily the neihbor guy at my shop had a tig welder he's loaning me for a week.
so i got the tail section mounted solid.i also assembled a couple of our muffler shells together, and threw them on the bike to see how it would look.
should be a better day tomorrow. im so busy i feel like im gonna hurl somtimes!

tribute to dennis

so as you go through life, you occasionally meet people that change you forever.i first stumbled into dennis's shop about ten years ago.i needed some machining done,i had no idea he was a racing frame builder,or that he was a welder.his shop is on the same property as his house, out in the county, there's just a sign out front that says "circle f machine"
it was right down the road from my shop,so i just went in there cuz of the close proximity to my shop.at first i could tell he thought i was kind of a weirdo, cuz he's very reserved and quiet.but over time, weve gotten to be good friends.
whats funny about dennis,is his obsession with perfection.its funny to me,mainly cuz he has no idea how perfect everything he does is! its kind of hard to explain, everything he builds is perfect! if there's anyhting wrong with it,it goes in the garbage can!
now, up to this point in my life, i fancied myself as a pretty good fabricator.after seeing the work he did...i realized i wasnt even a fabricator!
so if in this small way,i can expose this guy to the world,im gonna do it,because he has been a huge inspiration to me,to never say something is "good enough", and i gotta say, since ive become friends with him,the level of quality in my work has been steadily going up!
he doesnt have a website...he never goes online,im quite sure he will never have a website, and i know my pictures are crummy, but try look at the fit of everything on the frame, all the lugs, oiltank in the backbone, the little sheetmetal reinforcements, the shock tower connection ...everything is nuts on!
on another note,i put some pics up of the solid alum struts mark made for the swingarm,he also milled all the spacers for it,top notch job! the pice of alum mark is holding up is a mount for the chain gaurd.
note marks beard.also sorry about the topless shot of me.....had to do it.....on this build we decided to use the blue nvajo blanket.....people please!!

more french

so there's quite a few people that wanted to see this article about matt french in frequency magazine,so i tried to take pics of it,sorry if they dont come out too nice.the jamie lynn portrait done on the back od a piece of formica in a negative space style,is fairly amazing as far as im concerned.
one of my favorite graphics is the "do you want flies with that?" its highlarious on so many levels!
if you got a birds eye vision, you can see a super rat sticker on one of the snowboards....fun for the whole family!

i got the headlight thing trimmed and welded some slugs in for for headlights, they are actually taillights, but im gonna try n put some headlight bulbs in em.

matt french!

so matt french stopped by the shop today.he gave us a painting he did.and some volcomb leather belts.
if you dont know who matt french is,just google his name.
weve known matt french since he was in his teens,he's always been an amazing artist and his vision for skate/surf style is second to none.he does artwork and design for volcomb, nike, grenade, skullcandy, quicksilver, pocket pistols, and too many other companies to list.
can anyone guess who the couple in the painting is??

so today i didnt have much time in the shop, went and rode bikes with my kids. but i went and worked on the nacelle for a couple hours.i dont want to post any pics till i get it roughed out.
my systems that ive created for shaping metal are so unconventional that it would make guys like faye butler and even jesse james fold their arms and shake their heads slowly like lee trevino in happy gilmore!
im doin this nacelle with no power tools whatsoever, except of course my welder.i make all my own dollies and metal shaping tools.if i can make this work its gonna be really interesting looking...stay tuned
so,we have a bunch of cars, and weve lost a bunch of our storage space.if anyones interested,we would probably sell either of the vans.the black one has a brand new hotrod 350,smokes the tires all day! the blue dodge has a 318,full bench seat interior, its basically in perfect unrestored condition.
ive had the black '62 ragtop bug for over 20 years,so i dont really want to sell it,but i dont want to leave it out in the rain either.
