the battle of bonneville

so bonneville for me probably started out in the mid '70's with my brothers,we'd pore over magazines and books with the landspeed cars and streamliners...the blue flame. none of it made much sense to me other than it was cooler than heck! so about 10-ish years ago, mark and i started building a car for bonneville.its a '49 dodge coronet that we chopped the top on,put an '85 corvette front end on and we put a 3208 caterpillar diesel motor in that we are triple turboing with an air/water innercooler...well,we had to back burner the project cuz we had too many projects goin and not so much money.well we still wanted to go to bonneville, but we knew we'd go crazy if we went just to spectate. so we just stayed away..
so fast forward a few years,we met jason omer at hannegan speedway flat track racing, well,he had i bike there in the show that he took to bonneville,i was impressed with his fabwork and his building style,so we became fast friends.
so he has a racing team called sodium distortion with a cretin named bill woods, so we were bs'n about bonneville and started discussing buildin a bike and goin down with them this year.well,we had a rotax 500 thumper and a knight frame kicken around,so we figured we'd build that up,plus i had a front end off a duc 900ss and omer had a spool front wheel with a high speed tire.
well, mark decided he'd donate his rotax flat tracker to the cause and we'd just build 2 bikes so we could each race!
the problem ive encountered with these builds is pretty simple...no money. i have never in my life experianced an economic environment like this,so its caused us to be creative. i got stuff for sale on ebay and what have you, i figure the knight frame bike will cost about $1500 to build, mark's rotax wont really cost more than a few hundred to get set up.
now,im gonna be perfectly honest,i love to build what i percieve to be beautiful motorcycles. when it comes to bonneville, thats no exception.i realize im probably not gonna be in contention for a record with a 4 stroke thumper, but i want to build a cool racer, and appreciate the experiance.maybe they will create a thumper class sooner or later. im gonna build a partial streamliner body that i hope i can make perfect and stunning.sorry i dont have better pics.i'll add more tommorow.
